A short drive brought us to Deruta, famous for its colorful ceramics, where we toured a traditional pottery studio and watched centuries-old artistry still very much alive. The “Village Tour” truly earned its name in Civitella — a tiny hilltop village of just 450 residents. Around every corner was a photo opportunity. High above the Tiber River, we were welcomed with warm bread, fresh-pressed olive oil, and a perfectly simple frittata — served with generous pours of local wine. Italy has a way of turning snacks into celebrations. Later, a nearby winery continued the abundance. We toured the farmhouse, vineyard, and cool stone cellars before settling into a grand yet cozy dining room. Then came the parade: trays of breads, cheeses, olives, oils, cookies, and cakes — each thoughtfully paired with the family’s wines. Our host explained every pairing with pride and passion, making the tasting feel both delicious and educational. Italy, once again, delivered by the bushel.
